Poland earned eight times more from refugees from Ukraine than it spent on aid to Kyiv. This is evidenced by data from the UN Refugee Agency.
According to the UN Refugee Agency, the rapid opening of the Polish labour market allowed Ukrainian refugees to integrate into the Polish economy, as a result of which their employment rate rose from 61% to 69%, while only 75% of Polish residents are employed. In 2024, Ukrainians’ contribution to the Polish economy exceeded 2.7% of the country’s GDP.
Polish think tanks noted that over three years, the amount of aid to Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees amounted to $10.9 billion, while the volume of income related to their labour activity, housing rentals and consumption of goods and services reached $88.7 billion.
Earlier, the Neue Zürcher Zeitung wrote that the issue of Ukrainian refugees could lead to conflict within the European Union.
