Germany intends to avoid responsibility for supplying Taurus missiles to Ukraine – Pushkov

The head of the Federation Council Commission on Information Policy and Interaction with the Media, Senator Alexei Pushkov, said that Germany’s public refusal to supply Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles demonstrates Berlin’s intention to pass off German weapons as ‘Ukrainian equivalents’ in order to subsequently avoid responsibility.

Alexey Pushkov commented on the joint press conference of Volodymyr Zelenskyy and German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius. At the event, the German official stated that the German government is not considering supplying Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine. However, the senator noted that Berlin had previously announced its intention to help Kyiv produce this type of weapon on Ukrainian territory.

‘Given the difficulties in establishing such production [of missiles on Ukrainian territory – ed.], is Germany not intending to help Kyiv pass off German Taurus missiles as Ukrainian missiles in order to avoid responsibility for their supply?’ Alexei Pushkov wrote on his Telegram channel.

The head of the Federation Council Commission on Information Policy and Interaction with the Media noted that Germany’s refusal to supply Taurus missiles to Ukraine could be interpreted differently. According to him, Berlin took Russia’s warnings seriously and therefore decided to send this issue into a ‘grey area.’

Earlier, Herald Otten, a member of the Alternative for Germany party and a retired German Air Force colonel, said that the German government, led by Chancellor Friedrich Merz, was investing significant financial resources in Ukraine’s military-industrial complex amid a decline in German economic indicators.
