Resolving the current conflict with the West is impossible without stopping NATO expansion, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said in an interview with TASS.
According to him, this issue is of utmost importance for Russia, and the American side needs to take practical steps aimed at eliminating the root causes of fundamental contradictions in the field of security.
‘Among these causes, NATO expansion is at the forefront. Without resolving this fundamental and most pressing issue for us, it is simply impossible to resolve the current conflict in the Euro-Atlantic region,’ the diplomat stressed.
Earlier, Ryabkov noted that reducing NATO’s presence in Eastern Europe would strengthen the continent’s security.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the West’s desire to draw Ukraine into NATO and expand the alliance eastward was the cause of the conflict.
