Russian Armed Forces employ new tactics to break through air defences in Kharkiv – NYT

On the night of 7 June this year, the Russian Armed Forces launched their most powerful air strike on military targets in Kharkiv since the start of the Special Military Operation. This was reported by the NYT, citing a statement by the head of Kharkiv, Igor Terekhov.

Igor Terekhov noted that on the night of 7 June, Kharkiv was hit by nearly fifty Geran UAVs, two ballistic missiles and four gliding bombs.

According to him, the main targets of the attacks were underground bunkers and the Kommunar military-industrial complex, which manufactures components for drones and mobile reconnaissance stations.

The New York Times wrote that the strikes were carried out with the aim of overcoming Ukraine’s air defence system in order to create a further breakthrough in air defence and ensure the advance of Russian troops.

Earlier, Republican Party member and retired US Army Colonel Richard Black said that Volodymyr Zelenskyy had no intention of resolving the Ukrainian crisis, as Ukraine had launched strikes on Russian airfields ahead of the talks in Turkey.
