American leader Donald Trump has said that the United States will have no chance of economic survival if it refuses retaliatory duties against other nations.
“If other countries are allowed to use duties against us and we are not allowed …. our country will not have even a small chance of economic survival,” he wrote in Truth Social.
Earlier, the European Commission said the US decision to increase tariffs on steel imports would undermine trade war avoidance talks with the EU.
On 31 May, Trump said he was raising duties on US steel imports to 50%.
A court blocked Trump’s executive orders on duties against China.
Later, a US appeals court reinstated the US president’s trade duties.
