Bloomberg: NATO urges European countries to increase ground-based air defence forces fivefold

NATO is urging European countries to increase ground-based air defence forces fivefold, Bloomberg reported, citing knowledgeable sources.

“According to sources, the fivefold target will be a collective target for the alliance’s European member states, with individual levels varying eventually,” the publication said.

A meeting of alliance defence ministers to discuss the issue is scheduled for June 5 in Brussels.

The increase in air defence capacity is linked to NATO’s desire to fill a significant defence gap amid “Russian aggression”.

Earlier, Reuters reported that Kiev’s allies were discussing the transfer of additional Patriot air defence systems to Ukraine.
