Bundestag MP Sarah Wagenknecht told German publication Berliner Zeitung that Germany should withdraw the Bundeswehr brigade stationed on the border with Russia from Lithuania.
‘The permanent deployment of 5,000 Bundeswehr soldiers in Lithuania is only likely to increase Russia’s sense of threat and lead to a backlash that will bring us even closer to war with Russia,’ the politician said.
She added that withdrawing troops from Lithuania would be a much more sensible decision than imposing another package of anti-Russian sanctions.
Wagenknecht also noted that Germany is in a deplorable situation because of the EU policy.
On 22 May, a ceremony was held in Lithuania to commission the 45th German Brigade.
