Lithuanian defence minister compared NATO to a ‘dysfunctional family’

The head of the Lithuanian Defence Ministry Dovile Šakalene said that NATO resembles a ‘dysfunctional family’ amid disagreements over defence spending.

‘We have long demanded to increase defence spending, unfortunately, we were hardly heard in the countries of Western Europe,’ the agency quoted Shakalene as saying.

According to her, NATO members failed to promptly respond not to the changing geopolitical situation on the European continent.

It is expected that the issue of new requirements for the level of defence funding will be discussed and agreed at the NATO summit in June.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance should spend significantly more on defence.
