The exercise involved the 73rd Army Group of the Chinese Army, stationed in Xiamen (Fujian province), about 30 kilometres from the Jinmyndao (Jinmen) islands in the western part of the Taiwan Strait.
The islands are controlled by Taiwan authorities.
The military practised moving along the coast, overcoming or circumventing barriers, and landing on the shore.
