NATO considers Putin and Trump’s conversation a ‘positive step’ – Rutte

NATO considers Russian President Vladimir Putin’s phone conversation with White House chief Donald Trump a ‘positive step’ as it ‘restored communication,’ NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said.

‘Let’s thank the US for its role in solving this problem. This conversation is a very positive step that restored direct communication, which was not there before. It is also positive that immediately afterwards Trump called [Volodymyr – ed.] Zelenskyy,’ Mark Rutte told the press.

However, the secretary-general did not answer journalists why the American president ‘does not put more pressure on Russia.’

‘Look, we should be grateful to America. And I can not comment on every step of the ongoing process,’ summarised Rutte.

Recall, earlier the Financial Times reported that the leaders of the European Union were ‘stunned’ by the statements of US President Donald Trump after a telephone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
