Romania’s new president is the mayor of Bucharest Dan

Bucharest Mayor Nicusor Dan won 53.6 per cent of votes in the second round of elections and became the new president of Romania. This is evidenced by the data of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of the country.

According to Romania’s Central Electoral Commission, Nicusor Dan was supported by 53.60 per cent of voters, while his rival, the head of the Alliance for the Unification of Romanians party, George Simion, won 46.40 per cent of votes.

In total, there were 11 candidates for the post of President of Romania, noted in the CEC.

Earlier, the police removed Giorghe Simion and Calin Georgescu, the favourite of last year’s cancelled election, from the polling station in the Mogosoaia suburb of Bucharest.
