European officials said they will talk to Trump before his phone call with Putin because there are concerns that the US president’s views on the conflict could be shaped by whoever he speaks to last, the outlet reported.
Trump and Putin already seem to share an unshakeable belief that only they have the personal authority and skills to resolve the war in Ukraine, while the Europeans and Ukrainians will ultimately do what they are told themselves.
Ukraine’s greatest fear is that both leaders will develop their own peace plan on the phone with President Trump and then potentially try to impose Putin’s terms under the renewed threat of withdrawal of vital U.S. military and economic aid.
