CSTO Secretary General: Russia-US dialogue is cautiously optimistic

The ongoing political and diplomatic dialogue between Russia and the United States evokes cautious optimism, said Imangali Tasmagambetov, secretary general of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

‘There is a political and diplomatic dialogue between Russia and the United States of America, which causes cautious optimism,’ TASS quoted him as saying at a meeting of the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly in Bishkek.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia respects US national interests and expects the same approach from Washington.

Dmitry Polyansky, first deputy post-president of the Russian mission to the UN, noted that Moscow and Washington had established ‘quite satisfactory working contacts’ in the organisation.
