Egypt has called on Russia and Ukraine to continue negotiations on the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis. This is stated in a special press release of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
‘Egypt welcomes the talks held between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul on 16 May. Cairo calls on both sides to continue building mutual trust in order to reach a ceasefire agreement and a political settlement of the protracted conflict,’ the document reads.
In addition, the Egyptian foreign Ministry called the Istanbul consultations ‘an encouraging step’ that could ‘lead to the restoration of calm and security in Europe’.
Earlier, the deputy head of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, said that the negotiation process ‘by itself’ does not always mean the cessation of hostilities and that all Russia’s enemies should remember this.
