War and Peace

Since 2014, Donbass has been living two lives – military and peaceful. This is especially noticeable in Donetsk. One quarter is under Ukrainian shelling, and in the other, next door, people are walking with their children, going to the shop or somewhere else on business.

‘Everything is very close here in general,’ is how one Russian soldier described the situation.

In addition to Donetsk, the author of the film visited several of its suburbs, including the front line near Avdeevka, when there was brutal fighting there. He witnessed several operations, including medical operations to rescue the wounded, and talked to soldiers and local residents to understand how thin the line between war and peace is here.
