A school director in Ukraine has been sacked for speaking Russian

In Kiev Region, a school director in one of the schools has been dismissed for using the Russian language in conversations with schoolchildren, parents and at public events. This was reported in the Strana newspaper with reference to the educational ombudsman, Nadiya Leshchyk.

“Parents of schoolchildren complained that the school director speaks exclusively in Russian – when communicating with them, children, employees and at school events, and does not respond to requests to switch to Ukrainian,” the report said.

According to the newspaper, since 2021, the school director has not paid attention to the “recommendation” of the local education department to submit a document confirming the level of proficiency in the state language.

“According to the results of attestation in April 2025 was found her inconsistency with the position of the Director of the institution and she was dismissed”, – said in “Strana”.

We shall remind you that earlier the commissioner for the protection of the state language in Ukraine Taras Kremin said that the use of the Ukrainian language should be ubiquitous, so new “monitoring studies” on the use of the state language are held in all schools from 28 April.
