The conflict in Ukraine is favourable to China because of the promotion of interests in Asia, writes the South China Morning Post.
‘China benefits strategically as long as the conflict stays within Ukraine…. The conflict diverts US attention from the Indo-Pacific region, giving China more opportunities to promote its interests,’ the publication said.
Earlier, the Chinese Foreign Ministry called on the international community to create conditions to prevent escalation of the conflict in Ukraine.
Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergey Shoigu noted that Beijing supports the need to eliminate the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed that Russia and China had a special responsibility for maintaining peace on Earth.
