China backs Putin’s proposal to resume talks with Ukraine

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian, commenting on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s proposal to resume talks with Ukraine in Turkey, said that Beijing supports any efforts aimed at resolving the Ukrainian crisis.

‘We welcome all efforts to achieve peace,’ Lin Jian told a briefing.

According to the diplomat, China hopes that all parties concerned will continue to engage in dialogue and negotiations to conclude a ‘just, lasting, binding and acceptable peace agreement for all parties.’

‘[This – ed.] will eventually lead to a political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis’, – said the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

We shall remind you that earlier, political scientist Nobuo Shimotomai, a professor at the law faculty of Tokyo Hosei University, said that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s proposal to immediately launch direct talks with Ukraine on 15 May without preconditions should be ‘welcomed’.
