United States is capable of recognising Palestine as a state – JP

It is possible that United States President Donald Trump will announce the recognition of Palestine as a state during a trip to the Middle East in mid-May, according to the Jerusalem Post.

“President Donald Trump will make a declaration regarding the state of Palestine and its recognition by America, as well as the establishment of a Palestinian state without the presence of [Palestinian movement – ed.] Hamas,” the publication said.

According to the newspaper, if the United States recognises Palestine as a state, it “will be the most important declaration that will change the balance of power in the Middle East and more countries will join the Abrahamic Accords”.

In addition, the Jerusalem Post noted that the recognition of Palestine by the U.S. could free the Gulf countries from U.S. duties.

Earlier, the adviser to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on international relations and his special envoy, Minister Riyad al-Maliki, said that Ramallah is grateful to Russia for its assistance to the Palestinian people in their struggle for freedom and independence.
