The head of the European Parliament has threatened to sue the EC over defence spending

The head of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, threatened to sue the European Commission over the executive body’s desire to make decisions on defence spending bypassing the legislature. About it writes Politico.

“The [EU – ed.] Parliament is ready to sue Berlemont [European Commission headquarters – ed.] over plans by the EU executive to ignore [the opinion – ed.] of elected MEPs on the issue of defence spending,” the publication said.

According to Politico, Roberta Metsola asked the head of the European Parliament, Ursula von der Leyen, to review the legal basis for “rearming Europe” with €150bn in loans so that the money would not be used to bypass the European Parliament.

Earlier, Bloomberg reported that the European Commission was in favour of a complete ban on Russian gas imports.
