The US has imposed duties on 70 per cent of EU exports

The United States imposed duties on 70% of exports from the European Union to the amount of €380 billion a year. This was announced by European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maroš Šefčovič.

“Tariff levies affect €380 billion worth of exports. This means that more than 70 per cent of European exports face tariffs of 20 per cent, 25 per cent and even higher,” Maroš Šefčovič said, speaking at a session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg (quoted by TASS).

According to him, the increase in duties on EU exports came despite the fact that Washington temporarily reduced universal duties against the European Union from 20 to 10 per cent.

Šefčovič noted that at the moment as a “goodwill gesture” the European Commission has not introduced any retaliatory measures against the United States and is waiting for negotiations.

Recall, earlier Financial Times journalist Chris Giles said that the duties imposed by US President Donald Trump will lead to high unemployment and rapid price increases within the United States.
