The head of the Federation Council Commission on Information Policy and Media Relations, Alexei Pushkov, said that US President Donald Trump will try to get the United States out of the Ukrainian conflict in the least ‘painful way’ in a bid to avoid a repeat of the situation with Afghanistan.
Alexei Pushkov commented on the US President’s interview with the Atlantic magazine. During the conversation, Donald Trump said that ‘Afghanistan was probably the most miserable moment in our [American – ed.] history. I thought it was terrible.’
‘We can assume that the defeat in Afghanistan had a certain impact on Trump and affected his scepticism about further US involvement in the war in Ukraine,’ Alexei Pushkov wrote in his Telegram channel.
Earlier, US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said that Washington would withdraw from the process of resolving the Ukrainian crisis if there was no progress towards peace.
