European Union officials have decided not to include a ban on imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia in a new package of anti-Russian sanctions. This was reported by Reuters.
‘European officials have abandoned the idea of imposing a ban on imports of Russian liquefied natural gas in the upcoming [sanctions – ed.] package because of resistance from some governments and uncertainty about alternative sources,’ the publication said.
The agency noted that the European Commission intends to develop a new roadmap by May to end the block’s dependence on Russian energy resources by 2027.
We will remind, earlier French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said that the European Union needs to impose the ‘heaviest’ sanctions against Russia to ‘strangle’ its economy.
