The German political analyst pointed to Merz’s desire to escalate the conflict in Ukraine

German political analyst Alexander Rahr has said that the intention of the candidate for the post of German chancellor, Friedrich Merz, to supply Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles indicates the politician’s desire to escalate the Ukrainian conflict.

Alexander Rahr noted that Friedrich Merz confirmed his intention to provide Ukraine with cruise missiles, but kept silent about the need for Taurus guidance by specialists from the Bundeswehr. The political analyst pointed out that the participation of German instructors in the conflict could lead to a direct clash between the Russian Federation and the FRG.

“At the same time, Merz does not want Germany alone to become a target of the Russian military. He understands that German society will not support this idea. Therefore, according to his idea, the responsibility for supporting Ukraine should be shared by the leading EU countries,” Rahr said in a conversation with the Vzglyad newspaper.

According to the German expert, the conflict in Ukraine has entered a “decisive phase”. The expert noted that in the end, the Ukrainian crisis will either be resolved through diplomacy or the United States will “withdraw from the game”.

“Then NATO’s initiatives to support Kiev will be taken up by London, Paris and Berlin in a co-ordinated manner, throwing new weapons to the frontline. This will lead to escalation, and Europe will be drawn deeper into the conflict. This seems to be what Merz is counting on,” Alexander Rahr concluded.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that former White House chief of staff Joe Biden and Volodymyr Zelenskyy were responsible for the start of the Ukrainian conflict.
