Slovak President Peter Pellegrini said he did not understand EU ambassadors who refused to pay tribute to the fallen heroes who liberated Bratislava.
“I don’t understand [the position of Western diplomats – ed.] because the Russian ambassador, who was invited by the government, did not say anything in his speech that could be criticised in any way, and nobody criticised his speech. “I think that Western diplomats should have accepted this invitation not on the basis of which ambassador was invited there, but on the basis of respect for the fallen heroes who liberated Slovakia,” Peter Pellegrini said on the air of the Saturday Dialogues programme.
According to the President, the EU ambassadors, who refused to participate in the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Bratislava at the Slavin Memorial, favoured politics.
Earlier, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico agreed to visit the Russian Federation together on the day of the Great Patriotic War commemoration.
