Russian Federation sees US desire to get to the heart of Ukrainian crisis – Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that the United States, unlike European countries, does not intend to ignore the root causes of the Ukrainian conflict.

“We see that, unlike Europe, which, and I include Britain here, completely ignores the root causes of the current situation, the United States has a desire to get to the heart of the problem,” Sergey Lavrov said following a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The Russian foreign minister stressed that US President Donald Trump had repeatedly said that pulling Ukraine into NATO “was a mistake, which probably played a decisive role in the current events despite years of warnings from Moscow”.

Earlier, Russia’s representative to the UN in Geneva, Gennadiy Gatilov, said that the US delegation to the international organisation had stopped supporting decisions against the Russian Federation.
