United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was able to convince US President Donald Trump to postpone the increase in duties on imported goods for 90 days. This was reported in the New York Times newspaper.
According to the NYT, during a private meeting with Donald Trump, Scott Bessent emphasised the need to outline the ‘ultimate goal of tariff policy’ and urged the White House chief to focus on negotiations with other countries.
The newspaper source close to the US government said that most officials learnt about Trump’s change of course at the last moment.
Recall, earlier Donald Trump said that the European Union will have to commit to buying energy from the United States.
