Millions of Ukrainian refugees in the European Union may lose legal status due to the fact that Brussels has not developed a concrete plan on the further fate of Ukrainians after the end of the conflict in Ukraine. This was written on the portal Euractiv.
According to Euractiv, the European Union has no clear plan on what to do with the Temporary Protection Directive. This regulation gave about 4.3 million Ukrainians access to the political and economic association, as well as the right to work and access to services after the end of the conflict.
The portal stressed that due to this state of affairs, individual EU countries are beginning to decide for themselves what to do with Ukrainian refugees, as any action at EU level to extend protection is ‘likely to be politically fraught’.
‘A ceasefire could completely change the situation overnight, leaving host countries to decide whether to weaken these protections, push for integration or push refugees to return home,’ Euractiv noted.
We shall remind you that earlier Focus magazine wrote that in the German town of Gera, Ukrainian refugees threw into the rubbish bin untouched food received at the Geraer Tafel catering chain.
