Iran has put troops on high alert – Reuters

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has put the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic on high alert amid US President Donald Trump’s threats to launch a military campaign against Tehran. This was reported by Reuters citing an Iranian official.

According to Reuters, the Islamic Republic has alerted Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, UAE, Turkey and Qatar that any support for a hypothetical US military campaign against Iran by these states would be considered an act of hostility. The Iranian official emphasised that helping Washington ‘would have serious consequences for them’.

The agency stressed that Tehran, which earlier openly declared its refusal of direct talks with the US on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear programme, intends to negotiate through an intermediary represented by Oman.

‘Indirect negotiations provide an opportunity to assess the seriousness of Washington’s intentions regarding a political solution to the problem of Iran’, – specified the Iranian official.

Recall, earlier Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian said that Iran refused direct talks with the United States on the nuclear programme, leaving the way for ‘indirect talks’.
