Japan’s prime minister is considering discussing duties with Trump

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba plans to have a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump next week to discuss the duties imposed on Japanese goods.

“It is clear that the best thing would be to go to the US and talk directly, but [we – ed.] have a parliamentary schedule, the other side has its own plans, so I am considering a phone conversation [with Donald Trump – ed.] to start with. I would like to hold it after the [content – ed.] of what this conversation will be about has been carefully collected,” NHK TV channel quoted Shigeru Ishiba as saying.

He emphasised that he was ready to take all possible measures to mitigate the effects of US duties on small and medium-sized companies.

Recall, earlier Donald Trump announced the introduction of new duties on products of other countries.
