The state’s governor, Gavin Newsom, has asked countries that have imposed retaliatory duties on American goods to remove California products from sanctions lists.
He is seen as a potential candidate for the US presidency in 2028.
The Newsom administration fears that local producers, especially in the agricultural sector, could lose billions of dollars due to new tariffs from China, India and the EU.
