The European Union is discussing the possibility of using NATO structures to deploy a peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine, the Financial Times has quoted five officials as saying.
According to the newspaper, this is one of the proposals being discussed in the negotiations between the countries led by France and the UK.
It also envisages the use of NATO’s intelligence and surveillance capabilities by the peacekeeping forces.
Earlier, former US assistant deputy defence secretary Stephen Brien said that the plan of European politicians to send troops to Ukraine seems simple only on paper, Europe does not have deployable forces in sufficient numbers.
The Russian Foreign Ministry strongly opposed the idea of deploying peacekeepers to Ukraine from the countries that are pumping weapons into Kiev.
