Poland’s only nuclear reactor has been shut down due to the expiry of its licence

Poland has shut down the country’s only nuclear reactor “Maria” with a capacity of 30 MW due to the expiry of its licence.

A representative of the National Nuclear Research Centre told RIA Novosti.

“The licence issued by the State Agency for Atomic Energy has expired. Without this document, the reactor cannot operate,” the agency quotes the interlocutor as saying.

He also expressed hope that the licence will soon be issued and the reactor will be able to resume work.

Earlier it became known that the Polish authorities will allocate about $15bn for the construction of the country’s first nuclear power plant.
