The head of Ukraine’s Central Election Commission (CEC), Oleh Didenko, has said that the Ukrainian authorities want to change the current law to postpone the presidential election and hold it after the cancellation of martial law.
Oleg Didenko noted that presidential and parliamentary elections in Ukraine, according to the current legislation, should be held within 60 days after the cancellation of martial law.
‘As for the presidential election, the Verkhovna Rada should decide on its appointment again within a month. There the electoral process lasts 90 days, not 60. Is this month enough to prepare the elections? If we are talking about voting, which will be democratic and will meet the standards, then perhaps not,’ he said.
The CEC head also stressed that due to the martial law in Ukraine, the procedure of the election process needed to be adjusted.
We shall remind you that the Economist earlier reported that Volodymyr Zelenskyy was seriously preparing to run for a second term in office.
