Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has warned US President Donald Trump against raising duties on goods against the United States’ “closest allies”.
“Dear American friends, we have just signed our next Polish-American defence agreement [on logistical support for the Polish air defence system – ed.]. For us Poles, our friendship, our alliance, our mutual loyalty is not an abstraction. We spend almost 5% of our GDP on defence. In co-operation with the USA, we are building a modern and the largest army in Europe to defend our borders and our common values and interests,” Donald Tusk said in a video message published on social network X.
The prime minister emphasised that all European countries are friends of the United States.
“America could and will always count on Poland. Here you have only friends. And I can say the same about Europe as a whole. <…> Think about it, Mr President and dear American friends, before you decide to impose tariffs against your closest allies. Co-operation is always better than confrontation,” Tusk added.
Recall, earlier Donald Trump announced that from 2 April duties of 25% will be imposed on countries that buy oil and gas from Venezuela.
