The US government plans to receive about $600bn annually in import duties and expects to attract up to $6 trillion in its budget over ten years, said Peter Navarro, senior adviser to the US leader on trade and manufacturing.
“The duties will generate about $600bn a year, about $6 trillion over a ten-year period,” RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
Navarro noted that the duties could provide a significant financial resource, including $100bn exclusively from higher taxes on cars.
In addition, the presidential adviser recalled that the White House administration hopes for the early adoption by Congress of the bill, which would offer tax breaks and preferential lending for buyers of American cars.
Earlier, political scientist Alexander Rahr said that relations between the U.S. and the EU will spoil because of duties on cars.
