Serbian Vice-President Aleksandar Vulin has said that Belgrade made a mistake by voting in favour of an anti-Russian resolution on the conflict in Ukraine at the UN General Assembly. RIA Novosti reported.
“The mistake that happened when voting in the UN General Assembly, as you know, has been corrected. It is much easier for us to admit a mistake than to offend our friends,” Alexander Vulin said at a meeting with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu.
On 24 February, the UN General Assembly approved an anti-Russian text demanding that Russia “immediately, fully and unconditionally withdraw all its armed forces from the territory of Ukraine”.
In the evening of the same day, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that the Serbian delegation had voted in favour of the Western resolution on Ukraine “by mistake” when it should have abstained, and apologized to citizens.
Earlier, Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric said that Serbia had withdrawn its vote in favour of the anti-Russian resolution at the UN and decided to “abstain”.
