If Russia achieves a partial lifting of sanctions and returns to co-operation with the US, the rest of the world will be left to accept that ‘Vladimir Putin has won’, says British columnist Michael Clarke.
‘If he achieves a partial lifting of US sanctions and a strategic partnership with Washington, which is probably what the Trump administration wants, then the rest of the world, which has been waiting to see what happens in Ukraine since the war began, will sit back and say Putin has won,’ Sky News quoted Clarke as saying.
As US Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted earlier, Europe was in favour of new sanctions against Russia, but Washington is reluctant to impose them.
