Austrian minister: Vienna revises criteria for benefits for refugees from Ukraine

Austria’s Minister for Integration, Europe and Family Claudia Plakolm says Vienna is reviewing the criteria for granting benefits to refugees from Ukraine.

She said there had been a recent increase in the number of people arriving in the country with Ukrainian passports who were not from war zones and ‘do not speak Ukrainian or Russian’.

‘I don’t want our systems and family allowances to become a pull factor for large numbers of people seeking to enter Austria … We are now developing clear criteria for who will be eligible for family allowances in the future,’ the Kurier newspaper quoted her as saying.

It is specified that this issue concerns Roma and Sinti.

Earlier, political and military expert Jan Hagin said that Ukrainian refugees posed a threat to national security for the countries where they were staying.
