Lavrov in conversation with Rubio urged US to stop use of force in Red Sea

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in a telephone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, called for the need for an immediate halt to the use of force against the Houthis in the Red Sea.

During a telephone conversation on March 15, the U.S. side informed Moscow of the decision to launch a military operation against the Houthi forces in the Red Sea.

“Lavrov emphasized the need for an immediate cessation of the use of force,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a release.

The minister said all sides should engage in dialog to find a solution that would rule out further bloodshed.

The United States State Department had previously released a statement saying Rubio had briefed Lavrov on the US operation against the Houthis in Yemen.
