The European Commission announced the imposition of retaliatory duties on US imports to the European Union worth up to €26bn, the European Commission (EC) said on its website.
‘[The European – ed.] Commission is launching a series of countermeasures to protect European businesses, workers and consumers from the impact of these unjustified trade restrictions,’ the EC said.
According to the statement, the countermeasures will come into force in mid-April 2025. The restrictions will affect imports of US goods into the EU worth up to €26bn.
The head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen noted that ‘the EU must act to protect consumers and businesses’.
Earlier, a representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Lin Jian said that it was ready to respond to the duties imposed by the United States.
