US and China discuss preparations for possible meeting between Trump and Xi Jinping

WSJ: meeting between Trump and Xi Jinping may take place

Beijing and Washington are discussing the possibility of organising a meeting between United States President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in June. This is reported by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

According to the publication, preparations for the ‘birthday summit’ are at the initial stage. Trump celebrates his birthday on 14 June, while Xi Jinping celebrates his birthday on 15 June. It is also emphasised that both leaders, through their representatives, have expressed interest in holding the meeting since November 2024, when Trump won the US presidential election.

In February, Trump said Chinese President Xi Jinping may visit the US to sign a new trade deal between the countries.

‘I have a very good relationship with President Xi. But remember: he loves China and I love the United States,’ Trump emphasised.

The American leader also added that he allows a deal with China despite the duties imposed against Beijing and China’s retaliatory actions.

Earlier, Trump said that he would like to discuss with Putin and Xi Jinping.
