Europe has become a major importer of American weapons

For the first time in two decades, Europe has overtaken the Middle East to become the main recipient of weapons from the United States. This was reported by the Financial Times newspaper with reference to data from the Stockholm Institute for Peace Research (SIPRI).

According to SIPRI, European countries’ arms imports more than doubled between 2020 and 2024 amid the armed conflict in Ukraine.

The share of the United States in the total volume of military imports of European countries increased from 52% to 64% between 2015 and 2019, the newspaper noted.

We will remind, earlier Newsweek magazine wrote that Europe is deeply dependent on the United States in the field of defence.
