FT: US discusses rare earth metals deal with DR Congo

The United States is negotiating with the DR Congo on a deal on rare earth metals.

The Financial Times reports that.

‘The US is in preliminary talks with the Democratic Republic of Congo on a possible deal that would give it access to crucial minerals in the African country,’ the material says.

The newspaper notes that the DR Congo has significant reserves of copper, cobalt and uranium.

According to the newspaper’s sources, recently the negotiations ‘have become more serious, although some obstacles remain’. It is emphasised that they are still at a relatively early stage.

Earlier it was reported that the armed conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo threatens the production of electronics around the world.
