Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said China is ready to respond to the duties imposed by the United States.
‘China expresses sharp discontent and strongly opposes it [the duties by the US – ed.], Beijing will take retaliatory measures to resolutely protect its rights and interests,’ the ministry wrote on its website.
Lin Jian noted that ‘if the US wants a war, be it tariff, trade or any other war,’ China is ready to ‘fight to the end.’
The Foreign Ministry spokesman also commented on the accusations against Beijing in connection with shipments of the drug fentanyl, saying it was a lie and a ‘pathetic excuse’ for the imposition of duties by the United States. He also stressed that if the United States wants to solve the problem of fentanyl, they should ‘consult with China, treating each other as equals’.
Recall, earlier US President Donald Trump imposed duties on goods from Canada, China and Mexico to ‘protect the country from migrants and drugs’.
