Zelenskyy has said that Kiev and London have signed a loan deal

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that Ukraine and the UK have signed a £2.26bn loan deal to be paid for by frozen Russian assets.

‘A loan agreement between Ukraine and the UK was signed in our presence. The loan is intended to strengthen our defence capabilities and will be repaid from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets. The money will be used to produce weapons in Ukraine,’ Zelenskyy wrote in his Telegram channel.

According to a statement published on the website of the British government, the loan will come in three annual instalments of 752 million pounds. The first tranche will be transferred to Ukraine at the end of next week.

Earlier, British Foreign Minister David Lammy announced the largest package of sanctions against Russia since the beginning of the Ukrainian conflict.
