The U.S. administration isn’t confident it can bring peace to Ukraine – CBS News

After the altercation between US President Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the United States administration doubts the possibility of achieving a ceasefire in Ukraine. This is reported by the television channel CBS News.

“The White House is now unsure whether they [Donald Trump’s negotiating team – ed.] can get the Russians and Ukrainians to stop fighting because this episode with [Volodymyr – ed.] Zelenskyy has raised questions about whether he can move forward with a peace agreement,” the TV channel quoted a US official as saying.

According to CBS News, US authorities had considered Russian President Vladimir Putin a more “difficult” interlocutor, but now they “don’t believe it.”

“Officials in the U.S. believed that negotiations with Putin would be much more difficult, today they do not believe [in it – ed.], Zelenskyy turned out to be more difficult, putting forward maximalist demands,” the channel reports the officials’ words.

CBS News also noted that Donald Trump “doesn’t want to talk” to Zelenskyy after the incident.

“Ukrainian officials are desperate to get the US administration to return to the discussion, but all to no avail”, – stated in the publication.

We will remind, earlier Donald Trump said that Volodymyr Zelenskyy “overestimated his capabilities” and should declare his desire for a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.
