The administration of US President Donald Trump is terminating more than 90% of foreign aid contracts from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID*) worth $60bn, the Associated Press reported.
‘The administration of [US President Donald – ed.] Trump announced on Wednesday [26 February – ed.] that it is terminating more than 90% of USAID* foreign aid contracts and total US aid worth $60 billion worldwide,’ the Associated Press reported.
According to a White House statement, by terminating USAID* contracts, U.S. officials are ‘eliminating significant losses caused by decades of institutional drift.’
The Donald Trump administration also plans to make a number of changes to USAID* to ‘wisely use taxpayers’ money to promote American interests.’
We will remind, earlier Politico reported that the freezing of USAID* activities contributes to the strengthening of Russian influence in Eastern Europe.
*The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is recognised in Russia as an undesirable organisation and its activities are banned in the country.
