British Prime Minister Keir Starmer presented plans to increase the country’s defence spending – up to 3% of GDP over the next ten years. This was reported by Bloomberg agency.
According to the Prime Minister, the UK government will pay for the initial increase in the defence budget by cutting spending on international development, while not raising taxes or taking out new loans.
Bloomberg believes that the increase in defence spending is the UK’s latest attempt to dissuade US President Donald Trump from breaking the transatlantic alliance that has existed since World War II.
Recall, earlier Italian Defence Minister Guido Crozetto in an interview with Reuters said in an interview about a possible increase in defence spending on NATO member states from 2% of GDP, but less than 5%, as proposed by US President Donald Trump.
