G7 countries have prepared new sanctions for Russia if it refuses to negotiate with Ukraine

The G7 countries have prepared sanctions against Russia, which will come into force in case of Russia’s refusal to participate in negotiations with Ukraine. This is reported by Reuters.

‘Any new, additional sanctions after February should be linked to whether the Russian Federation is making real, credible efforts to end the war against Ukraine, which provides Ukraine with long-term security and stability as a sovereign, independent country,’ reads the statement, which was signed by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The document notes the need for ‘real, good-faith efforts’ on Moscow’s part as part of the settlement of the armed conflict with ensuring Kiev’s ‘long-term security and stability as a sovereign, independent country.’

‘G7’ emphasised its readiness to work together to help achieve lasting peace and “the need to develop reliable security guarantees so that the war does not start again”.

Earlier, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that the EU countries need to strengthen economic sanctions against Russia.
